The Barnes Foundation’s new building and 4.5 acre site is the first major art and education institution in the country to achieve the highest level of environmental certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The building opened May 19, 2012 and was certified as Platinum under the USGBC’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system on September 27th, 2012. 

This inspired, beautifully designed building can perform to high environmental standards. The development of the project included diverting 95% of construction waste from landfills, redevelopment of brownfield site and designed with systems that provide energy savings of 44% over a traditionally designed equivalent. 

Attendees will have an overview of the building design, its construction along with the key systems which help achieve the buildings platinum certification during lunch. 

Following the presentation a tour of the building mechanical room will be provided including Magnetic bearing McQuay Chillers, AHU room with heat recovery wheel, and centrally located VAV’s.

Speakers include Vince D’Antonio, Senior Director of Operations at the Barnes Museum and Tony Greener, Managing Partner with TriState HVAC Equipment.

If you would like to tour the museum before or after the program, you will need to make a reservation on their website:  Parking is available at The Barnes Foundation lot located on Pennsylvania Avenue for an additional fee along with other local parking.

Speaker Bios

Vince D’Antonio, Senior Director of Operations at the Barnes Museum

Mr. D’Antonio has over 25 years of experience in planning, construction and operation of some of Philadelphia’s most complex and one of a kind buildings.  He has planned and managed numerous building and renovation projects for the areas local cultural institutions and hospitals. Projects include The Barnes Foundation, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Academy of Music, Atlantic City Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. His complete knowledge of building components and systems has provided clients with well-built buildings with state or the art environmental and energy efficiency ratings.  Mr. D’Antonio is presently Senior Director of Operations at The Barnes Foundation where he is responsible for managing the Facility, including maintenance, grounds, security and the foundations arboretum.  Mr. D’Antonio is an alumnus of Spring Garden College, where he received a BS in Civil Engineering.
